Established in 2011 to increase the number of undergraduates completing their own research projects or collaborating with faculty on their research, the annual Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Arts (URSA) symposium provides an on-campus venue for Benedictine students to present work they have done as part of their university careers. Presenting at URSA also offers students the opportunity to do a “dry-run” for larger, regional conferences they may plan to attend.

While undergraduate research is often associated with the natural and social sciences, URSA interprets the category of scholarship in the broadest possible terms and strongly encourages participation by undergraduates who have conducted research in the humanities. Students working in the arts are also urged to take part by, for instance, displaying artwork or presenting on a musical composition.
